We note that international competition and collaboration between universities growing apace makes it all the more important for higher education leaders, researchers, scholars and officials, to keep abreast of developments in rival and partner institutions worldwide. We would like to recommend University World News, a high-quality international internet newspaper, dedicated to such coverage, supported by leading, experienced education journalists - many of whom the Secretary-General knows and has worked with. It offers a weekly emailed newspaper plus access to a dedicated news website – free of charge.

A new graduate scholarship scheme designed to support the 'leaders of tomorrow' was launched at Oxford University, run by Weidenfeld Institute for Strategic Dialogue, London, thanks to a generous benefaction.
The programme aims to foster regional networks with the wider European neighbourhood and promote the post-university careers of its Weidenfeld Scholars, through work placements, long-term mentoring, and engagement in leadership and conference programmes. Postgraduate research students are also expected to undertake a pro bono project in the UK or their home country during the long vacation. We expect five Weidenfeld Scholars to be specially selected to join the 2008 Europaeum Summer School. Scholars are expected to return to their country of origin in due course and play a significant leadership role in public life.
For more information, please see the Oxford University and Weidenfeld Institute websites.

The Centre analyses publications from Italy, France, Great Britain, Spain, Germany, Austria, Belgium, and has added the press of the Scandinavian countries and Russia. The analyses come out fortnightly.
