The awards, of €15,000 per annum, usually for one year, will enable Jenkins Scholars to study at Oxford for a Master's degree in the humanities or social sciences, the disciplines closest to Mr Jenkin's own political and literary achievements. Given Mr Jenkin's lifelong devotion to the institutions of the European Communities and the delight that he took in his last years in serving as Chancellor of Oxford, this is widely seen as a most suitable memorial. Jenkins Scholars will be chosen from the university partners in the Europaeum There are currently nine universities in the Europaeum: Oxford, Leiden, Bologna, Bonn, Geneva, Paris, Prague, Madrid, and Helsinki. In each year, three of these universities will be identified for awards. Jenkins Scholars will be chosen from all those sucessfully gaining admission to Oxford from that year's nominated universites.
The first two Jenkins scholars were chosen in June 2004. Michel Bobek will come from Charles University to study law in Oxford in the academic year 2004-05, and Jonathan Zvesper has been nominated to go from Oxford to study in Paris I. Each year from now onwards at least, three Jenkins scholarships will be offered. For new admission applicants: To apply for the Jenkins scholarship you should complete the funding section of the postgraduate admissions application form (see the University Admission page here).

The organising trustees are ready to initiate the scheme now that a sum of £400,000 has been pledged. It is hoped, however, to raise at least £1m in order to secure the future of the scholarship for the next twenty years. Please support this important initiative.
