Universitat Pompeu Fabra
Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) is a modern public university, established in 1990 and located in three neighbouring campuses in the city centre of Barcelona. UPF was founded to develop a new university model in Catalonia and Spain, noted for quality teaching, proximity to the students, a high level of internationalisation and emphasis on research and innovation. All its indicators have made it a benchmark for the Spanish university system.
In 2010 UPF was awarded the CEI rating (International Excellence Campus) by the Spanish Ministry of Education. The CEI rating will speed up the process of attaining excellence and international outreach, with the cooperation of research parks, technology centres and postgraduate platforms (http://www.upf.edu/icaria/en/).
In recent years UPF has begun to stand out in the international stage, for instance, figuring prominently in the Times Higher Education Ranking (being the only Spanish university among the Top 200 World Universities in the 2011 Ranking) and the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities.
