Bridging the Divide: EU-US Relations after 9/11
The 2006 Europaeum Summer School aims to bring together final-year undergraduates, graduates and academics from Europaeum institutions to explore EU-US relations after September 11.
The event will be comprised of a series of lectures and practical exercises, including simulations, negotiation, and policy-briefing exercises designed to provide participants with opportunities to synthesise and apply the skills and knowledge they will acquire in the classroom.Lecturers will be drawn from Europaeum universities and governmental institutions and will address such themes as: concepts of international order after downfall of the Berlin Wall (American and European perspectives); ESDP and NATO – interlocking and interblocking partners in the European security architecture; global economies challenges – American and European answers; EU-US economic relations – how much cooperation, how much competition?; heritage and enlightenment – challenges to democracy in Europe and America in the beginning of the 21st century; and symbolic construction of identities in Europe and America after 9/11 – views from Venus and Mars.
The working language will be English.
