2011 Europaeum-El Pomar TransAtlantic Bursary Weekly Reports
This year's winner of our El Pomar-Europaeum bursary, set up in 2008 to bridge links across the Atlantic, Juha Roppola is now spending five weeks in the US, attached to the El Pomar Foundation in Colorado, to be followed by time in Washington DC. Juha is preparing to start a PhD, and is in the USA meeting with fellow El Pomar scholars to hone his doctoral thesis.
TransAtlantic Junior Fellow Announced
An exciting Transatlantic bursary, linked to the Europaeum has been awarded to a young scholar from the University of Helsinki
The El Pomar – Europaeum TransAtlantic Junior Fellowship will allow the winner to spend six weeks attached to the El Pomar Foundation based in Colorado, followed by two weeks in Washington DC, in an internship attached to the International Foundation for Electoral Systems.

This year the award for our five-week study visit to the US in August-September has been won by a Finnish doctoral student. Juha Roppola who studied transatlantic relations and can now follow up in practice ! He is currently working as a business journalist at Kauppalehti, a Finnish business daily newspaper. Before his journalistc career, Juha graduated from the University of Helsinki in 2008 with a Master’s in Political History, focusing on corporate history, high technology trade - and transatlantic relations !
El Pomar Fellowship Deadling Approaching

Applications are invited for this five-week study visit to the US in August-September with three weeks to be spent in Colorado as a special guest of the supporting El Pomar Foundation and two weeks in Washington DC. The closing date for applications for this exciting award which allows the winner to spend five weeks fully supported in the US is approaching very fast, applications must be received no later than March 31st 2011. This year's winner of our El Pomar-Europaeum bursary, set up to bridge links across the Atlantic, launched in 2008, Nuno do Carmo (pictured here with fellow El Pomar scholars) is now spending five weeks in the US, attached to the El Pomar Foundation in Colorado, to be followed by time in Washington DC. El Pomar - Europaeum TransAtlantic Junior Fellowship

The Transatlantic Junior bursary, linked to the Europaeum, was launched in 2008, allowing a young research scholar to spend up to three weeks attached to the El Pomar Foundation in Colorado, followed by two weeks in Washington DC.
The first El Pomar - Europaeum TransAtlantic Junior Fellowship was awarded to Mateo Ballester Rodriguez, an assistant professor in Politics at the Compultense University, Madrid. He attended seminars, visits and meetings with senior political and defence advisers in Colorado before taking up an internship at the International Foundation for Electoral Systems in Washington, where he wrote in briefing on the Georgian Crisis.
