ImageThe Europaeum co-supported a very lively international workshop in the law faculty of Charles University, Prague, last May, examining the vexed question of the role of "sovereignty" in Europe today. As our law becomes increasingly common, as we move around Europe more freely and mix more freely culturally, politically, socially, and as economics become more and more global, what price sovereignty today. These were the issues grappled by leading lawyers and constitutional experts drawn from across Europe - and from Europaeum universities including Bonn, Krakow, Leiden, Oxford - and of course Prague. Read the lively report from Tomas Dubrovsky - who was one of the key coordinators along with Professor Lubos Tichy from Prague.

Some believe the concept has outlived its usefulness - while others noted sanguinely that were it to be dropped or even abolished, it would simply need to be re-invented as a concept, albeit as new 'word'.
